Actress and model Quazi Nawshaba has released from Gazipur’s Kashimpur Jail after she was granted bail by a Dhaka court on Tuesday.
Kashimpur Women Jail Superintendent Md Shahjahan Ahmed told Bangla Tribune that, she was released at 5:40pm.
Earlier in the day, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas granted her bail plea in connection with a case on charges of spreading rumours during road safety protests.
On Monday (Aug 20), Police’s cyber crime unit’s Inspector Rafiqul Islam and Investigative Officer of the case produced Nawshaba before the court and sought order to keep her in jail until the probe is over. Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akter granted the plea and sent her back to jail.
Nawshaba was remanded on two occasions by the Court on Aug 5 and Aug 10. She was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after the second remand period ended.
On Aug 4, during the students’ road-safety protests, Nawshaba went live on Facebook urging people to “save the students from attacks” claiming that two students were killed.
In her one-and-half-minute live broadcast, the actress also claimed a student’s eyes have been gouged out by the attackers.
Later in the day, RAB filed a case against her on charges of spreading rumours to incite violence under the ICT Act with the Uttara West police.
