A Dhaka court has rejected bail to quota reformist leader Sakhawat Hossain in a case filed under the ICT Act.
Sakhawat is one of the joint conveners of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council, the platform which has been leading the protests demanding reforms to quota in civil service.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Kamrul Islam passed the order on Thursday (Aug 16), defense lawyer Jayedur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
On Wednesday (Aug 15), the court set Thursday for hearing the investigator’s petition to keep the suspect behind bars until the probe finishes.
On Aug 6, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sakhawat from Gazipur after he was sued for spreading rumours on Facebook during the quota reform movement under the ICT Act.
The police have already interrogated him in custody for three days in two rounds of remand.
