Supreme Court, on Monday, upheld High Court’s order to hospitalize noted photographer Shahidul Alam, sent to jail on Sunday after a 7-day remand in an ICT case. Appeal bench, led by Chief Justice, Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order declining prosecution’s stay-order plea on the HC decision.
The state was represented by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam while barrister Sara Hossain moved for Alam.
Earlier, on 6 August, court granted seven days for questioning Alam in custody after Detective Branch (DB) inspector and investigation officer of the case, Arman Ali, sought orders for a 10-day remand.
Alam, the founder of Drik Gallery and Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, was picked up from his Dhanmondi home on Aug 5, said her wife Rehnuma Ahmed.
DB started a case against Alam on charges of spreading false information following his interview to an international media outlet during the students’ protest for safer roads.
