Bangladesh Railway has started selling advance train tickets on Wednesday ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival for the Muslims.
Hundreds of ticket-seekers thronged Kamalapur Railway Station to collect the desired tickets.
Of the first day today, tickets are being sold for Aug 17 and the return tickets will be available from Aug 15, Railway sources said.
Like the previous year, the advance ticket of Aug 18, 19, 20 and 21 will be available on Aug 9, 10, 11 and 12 respectively.
Besides, the return tickets for the journey of Aug 24 will be available on Aug 15 and for Aug 25 on Aug 16, Aug 26 on Aug 17, Aug 27 on Aug 18 and for Aug 28 on Aug 19.
Tickets are being sold in 26 counters, among these two are reserved for the women.Many ticket seekers standing in the queue said they came to buy tickets the previous evening and passed the night at the station to ensure they could enjoy the Eid festival with nearest and dearest ones.
I stood in the line at the dawn and got it now. I didn’t face any problem buying the ticket, a passenger said after getting the ticket.
Station sources said that nine pairs of special locomotives will be at service during the Eid journey to different destinations.
Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Shitangshu Chakraborty said, “Everyday some 2, 60, 000 passengers use the railway but, we managed to accommodate 3, 00, 000 during the Eid journey.”
