Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed deputy commissioners of 64 districts to ensure food support for poor and marginalized groups, including tea workers and the hijra community.
The premier also directed the support to be implemented from the ward level.
She said this while speaking with officials of 64 districts via a video conference that started at 10am from her official residence Ganabhaban on Tuesday (Mar 31).
Saying that the country has enough food in reserve, she also issued a stern warning that actions will be taken if attempts are made to misuse the food aid for the poor.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also added that plans will be formulated to tackle the impending global economic crisis and said Bangladesh will focus on maintaining the good agricultural production to ensure food security.
She urged all not to keep any piece of cultivable land unused.
Earlier, the government on Mar 23 declared general holidays from Mar 26 to Apr 4 amid the ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
