The country is set to go on a 10-day quarantine with all the offices and institutions shutting down, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque.
His remarks came on Wednesday (Mar 25) during a program at the Directorate General of Health Services.
“You saw how China fought. They quarantined nearly 50 million. From today or country is going on a quarantine of sorts,” he said.
He urged that everyone remain home during the general holiday and maintain safe distance from one another.
“This holiday is not for vacations. It’s for everyone to stay home,” he said before adding everyone must remain conscious to protect themselves from the highly contagious coronavirus.
Saying that there 57 hotlines at the DGHS, he added that 10 labs have been set up to fight the virus.
He urged the private hospitals to not return patients and the doctors and nurses to not back down from providing treatment.
“We want the big private hospitals to open up isolation wards. They have the capacity to do it,” he said.
