Offices shut from Mar 26 to Apr 4

“There is already a government holiday for Thursday, Mar 26, followed Friday and Saturday. The government announced a government holiday from Mar 29 (Sunday) to Apr 2 (Thursday) followed by the weekend on Apr 3 and 4,” Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told a press briefing at the Secretariat on Monday.
Essential commodities, hospitals, pharmacies and kitchen markets will be open during the period, he said.

People have been asked to practice social distancing and stay in their homes as much as possible.

Local administration around the country have been asked to encourage social distancing among people and armed forces will help them in this regard.
Kitchen markets will stay open during this period. People have been asked not to leave their homes, except to collect emergency supplies and daily necessities.
Public transport will remain limited and people have been asked to avoid using them as well to prevent the spread of the virus.
Banking services have also been limited and the country's central bank -- Bangladesh Bank -- will give necessary directives in this regard.
The army was ordered to cooperate local administrations to implement the decision of maintaining social distance among the mass people.
Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, principal secretary to the prime minister, said a monitoring cell at Prime Minister's Office will open for 24 hours.

The government took this decision to minimize the risk of spread of the infection in the country.
