Bangladesh’s 47th public university is going to be set up in the northeastern district of Sunamganj.
On Monday (Mar 2), the Cabinet gave its clearance to the draft of Sunamganj Science and Technology University Act 2020 during its weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Briefing the media at the Secretariat, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said the move aimed to provide higher-education opportunities for the residents of the district, which he said was “surrounded by Haors (backswamps)”.
The new university act follows the curriculum, regulations and policies of the existing science and technology universities, according to him.
