Amid the outbreak of the new coronavirus in China, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed the government officials to stay fully alert to the threat of the new virus to prevent it from spreading in Bangladesh.
The PM gave the directive at a regular meeting of the Cabinet at the Secretariat on Monday (Jan 27), said Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam.

The PM also instructed the authorities concerned to keep vigilance especially on the planes arriving from arriving in the country from China or Hong Kong, according to Islam.

“All must be careful. We need to set up special quarantine measures in airports and ports so that it [virus] doesn’t spread in Bangladesh,” Islam quoted the PM as saying.
The death toll from the fast-spreading virus rose to 81 in China on Monday with more than 2,800 infected.
The virus has already spread to more than 10 countries including the US, Japan and neighbouring India. The small number of cases confirmed outside China is linked to people who travelled from the country, but no deaths have been reported elsewhere.
Though any case of the new coronavirus, called 2019-nCoV, is yet to be confirmed in Bangladesh, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control Research.
