An interim water-sharing deal of Teesta River with India has been finalised, which now await to be signed, says State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque.
"The draft of [the deal's] framework has been finalised, which waits to be signed by respective authorities", he told parliament on Tuesday (Jan 19) in response to a query from BNP lawmaker Harun Ur Rashid.
Water-sharing with India through the Farakka barrage continues in line with the Ganges treaty signed by Bangladesh and India, said Faruque.
The process to formulate water-sharing deal's framework for Monu, Mohuri, Khoyai, Dharala and Dudhkumar rivers are underway, he added.
"[Indian and Bangladeshi authorities] are exchanging updated information for that process. Steps will be taken gradually to sign water-sharing deals for other common rivers, including the Mahananda," said the state minister for water resources.
