AL lawmaker Mozammel Hossain dies

File photo shows Dr Mozammel HossainThe ruling party lawmaker for Bagerhat-4, Dr Mozammel Hossain has passed away at the age of 80.
He breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Friday (Jan 10) due to old age complications.
Mozammel was elected from Bagerhat 1 and 4 in 1991, 1996, 2008, 2014 and 2018.
He had been serving as the Awami League’s district unit president since 1984.
Born on August 1, 1940, Mozammel also served as the state minister of Women and Children Affairs Ministry.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at Mozammel’s death in seperate condolence messages.
In his message, the president recalled his contribution to various local development and establishing democratic practices.

His body will be taken to Bagerhat after a funeral prayer at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building.
Around 2pm, another funeral prayer will be held at Sheikh Helal Uddin Stadium.
He will be buried at the family graveyard following the third funeral prayer at Kochubunia High School ground in Morelganj upazila in Bagerhat.
