She paid the tribute to the architect of Bangladesh's independence by placing wreaths at his portrait in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at 7:00 am in the morning, in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area, on Friday (Jan 10).

The prime minister stood there in solemn silence showing deep respect for the Father of the Nation.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion.

Homecoming day marks the day Bangabandhu returned to an independent Bangladesh—via London and New Delhi—on January 10, 1972. This followed his 290 days of captivity in a Pakistani prison.

Bangladesh is celebrating the occasion with renewed joy this year ahead of Mujib Barsha or Mujib Year, declared for his birth centenary.
