Two cold waves to hit Bangladesh in January

The intense wave will come at the end of the month, informed the director of the meteorological department, Shamsuddin Ahmed at a press conference held today, Jan 2.
At the meet, state minister Dr Enamur Rahman, senior secretary Shah Kamal, additional secretary and DG of the meteorological department, Md Mohsin, were present.
Shamsuddin Ahmed said that at the end of December, the lowest temperature recorded in the country was 4.5 Celsius in Tetulia.
Usually, if the temperature goes below six we take it as a cold wave, he added.

REUTERSAs per forecasts, there was rainfall yesterday everywhere except Dhaka and Mymensingh and there will be rainfall tomorrow, Friday, 3 January, in several places of the country. After the rain, the temperature will start to slide, said Shamsuddin Ahmed.

“From 6 January, the intensity of winter will rise.”
Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Rangamati will fall under the medium and intense cold wave. In the south of the country, the cold will be medium.

REUTERSState Minister Dr Enamur Rahman, said: “With the forecast of cold wave, 721,800 pieces of blankets were sent to 64 districts; 2.47 million pieces of blankets were given from the PM’s fund. Tk 16.8 million was allotted to 16 northern districts of the country.”
Tk. 5.4 million has been allotted to 20 districts to buy winter clothes for children along with Tk 2.1 million for buying food, said the state minister.
“In eight districts of Rangpur, 16,000 cartons of dry food were given.”
