Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Julia Niblett has paid her respect to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the first day of the centenary year of the birth of Bangladesh’s Father of the Nation.
She was accompanied by her spouse Dr Peter Shannon while travelling to Tungipara, Gopalganj.
A press release of the Australian high commission said, in paying their respects at the birthplace and the grave of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Niblett underlined the leading role he played in the founding of the independent nation of Bangladesh.
The High Commissioner said, “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a giant of Bangladesh’s history and in this centenary year of his birth, we commemorate his profound contribution to the founding of the nation and acknowledge his farsighted vision for a golden Bangladesh.”
