Two of the government’s mega projects, the Metro Rail and Padma Bridge are steadily progressing.
Around 63 percent of the work for Padma Bridge has been completed with the installation of 19 out of 41 spans that made 2,850 metres of the bridge visible.
Meanwhile, construction of pillars and installation of spans of the Metro Rail projects from Uttara to Agargaon is nearly complete.
According to the finance ministry, during the 2019-20 fiscal, the government added over Tk 27 billion to the budget for Padma Bridge.
The allocation for the Metrorail project for the current fiscal is over Tk 72 billion.
Responding to queries on the matter, Project Director Shafiqul Islam said, “All the complicated work is done. Now it’s only time for progress.”
He added they were aiming to finish the bridge and open it to the public by Jun 30, 2021.
Moreover, the rail connection on Padma Bridge will be inaugurated the same day. The work for the entire rail line will be completed within three years.
Construction of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development project started in 2012 and is expected to be completed by 2024.
The 20-kilometre metro rail will go through Mirpur to Agargaon from Uttara. Work for the line through Farmgate was already underway.
