According to the record, in the mine’s coal yard there should have a stock of 146,000 tonnes, but in reality, it’s only 3,000 tonnes.A case has been filed in relation with coal scam against 19 officials including Habib Uddin Ahmed, former Managing Director of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company in Dinajpur, a northern district of Bangladesh.


The case document has been sent to Anti-Corruption Commission district office as the institution is investigating the matter.
Parbatipur police station officer-in-charge Fakhrul Islam said, “As the case is investigating by the ACC, we sent the documents to them.”
The other accused of the case are Barapukuria Coal Mining Company general managers Nuruzzaman Chowdhury and Abul Kashem Prodhaniya; deputy general manager AKM Khaledul Islam; managers Mosharraf Hossain Sarkar, Jubaer Ali, Masudur Rahman Hawladar, Asoke Kumar Halder, Arifur Rahman, Syed Imam Hasan and Jahidul Islam; deputy managers Ekramul Haque, Mohammad Khalilur Rahman, Morsheduzzaman, Habibur Rahman and Jahedur Rahman; and assistant manager Shaytendra Barman.
Former general managers Abdul Mannan Patwary and Gopal Chandra Saha are also included in the accused list.
The first information report (FIR) stated that during 2001 to 2018, a total of 11 million tonnes of coal were extracted from the mine.
The mine authority supplied 6.7 million tonnes of coal to adjacent thermal power plant, sold 3.3 million to private sector and used 12,000 tonnes at the coal mine boiler.
According to the record, in the mine’s coal yard there should have a stock of 146,000 tonnes, but in reality, it’s only 3,000 tonnes.
There’s no trace of the remaining 144,000 tonnes amounted to about Tk 2.3 billion ($28 million).
Administrative action has been taken against four officials while it is believed the rest 15 helped the coal managing authority in stealing the industrial commodity.
