TWITTER/@IndiametdeptThe depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified to deep depression, which may further intensify into a cyclone, says the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
"If the deep depression further strengthens then it will intensify into Cyclone 'Bulbul'," Meteorologist ATM Bazlur Rashid told Bangla Tribune.
He, however, said that it was not certain whether the deep depression would turn into a cyclone.
Rashid added that it was too early to say that whether the cyclone will hit Bangladesh.
However, AccuWeather reports that conditions are favourable for it to strengthen further as it continues to move to the west and northwest across the Bay of Bengal through the later part of the week. This system will threaten the area from West Bengal, India, to Bangladesh over the weekend.

The Bangladesh Met office said that the deep depression over east-central bay and adjoining area remained practically stationary over the same area and was centred at 6pm on Wednesday (Nov 6) about 1005 km south-southwest of Chattogram port, 930 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 995 km south of Mongla port and 950 km south of Payra port. It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kms of the depression centre is about 50 kph rising to 60 kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain rough near the deep depression centre.
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal no. one (r) one.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the north bay and deep sea have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice. they are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.

Meanwhile, Cyclone Maha, which was earlier expected to hit India's Gujarat on Thursday, may just skirt the state's coast, according to latest predictions by the India Meteorological Department.
According to it, Maha has weakened into a cyclonic storm and is expected to continue losing intensity. IMD predicts that it will skirt the coast of Gujarat and lie around 40 kms below Diu by noon Thursday. The IMD has predicted that Maha will have weakened to a deep depression by then and that it will become a depression by evening.
