Visiting US acting assistant secretary Alice Wells, in a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, has asked for the trial documents of Bangabandhu killer Rashed Chowdhury.
Rashed is currently residing in the US under political asylum.
The visiting acting secretary asked for the documents after Minister Momen urged the US government to send back Rashed, a fugitive killer of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports BSS.
“I told her (visiting US acting assistant secretary) that we wanted killer Rashed Chowdhury back,” he told the media after a meeting with the visiting USA’s acting assistant secretary for south and central Asian affairs Alice Wells at the Foreign Ministry Tuesday evening.
Minister Momen said Bangladesh wants to bring back all the fugitive self-confessed Bangabandhu’s killers to establish the rule of law and good governance.
“I told her we want to ensure rule of law and good governance here similar to what you want to in your country. However, there is a problem that a fugitive killer is living in your country,” he said while talking to Alice Wells.
Bangladesh government made global appeals in bilateral regional and international forums to have Bangabandhu’s six fugitive killers sent back. Of them, Rashed Chwowdhury has been traced living in the US, while Noor Chowdhury is in Canada.
