A parliamentary body has summoned Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood over BASIC Bank corruptions.
The ACC chief and its officials, who are involved in dealing with the BASIC Bank graft, have been asked by the Standing Committee on Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to present at its next sitting.
The summon order came at the Committee’s meeting held at the parliament building on Thursday (Oct 31) with lawmaker Abdul Montin Khasru in the chair.
At the meeting, Committee member lawmaker Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh informed the panel of the High Court’s directives on the cases filed over the graft at the state-owned banks, said a statement issued by the parliament Secretariat.
After that, the panel expressed its concerned over why the ACC is not taking measures against the accused despite the HC’s specific directives, read the statement.
It then recommended ensuring the presence of the ACC officials including it chief at its next meeting, it added.
The Committee also discussed also other issues including land registration fee and asked the respective ministry to present a full report on how to set the fees at its next sitting.
It also formed a four-member parliamentary sub-committee on digitization of land registration system and asked it prepare a full report on the matter.
