Diplomat accused of moral lapse to head mission in Netherlands

PHOTO/Google MapsAfter recalling envoy to Iran AKM Majibur Rahman Bhuiyan for moral lapses a few months ago, the foreign ministry has decided to send another diplomat accused of similar allegations to head the embassy in the Netherlands.
Md Tauhedul Islam was recalled in 2014 as the consul general in Milan after allegations of indecent behaviour levelled by a female colleague were found true. He now serves as the consul general in Kunming.
The then-PMO additional secretary Pawan Chowdhury, now the executive chairman of BEZA, a former envoy to Bhutan Jishnu Roy Chowdhury and Foreign Ministry’s Director (administration) Kazi Anarkoly had travelled to Milan to probe the allegations, people familiar with the matter told Bangla Tribune.
In another development, the foreign ministry has decided to reshuffle envoys in over 10 Bangladesh missions.
Sources confirm that the ministry proposes to appoint Muhammad Imran, the envoy to the UAE, to head the embassy in New Delhi. The envoy in Austria, M Abu Zafar is set to replace Imran.
Muhammad Abdul Muhith, the ambassador in Denmark, has been proposed to replace Zafar in Vienna while Dhaka’s envoy to Nepal MashfeeBinte Shams will replace Muhith, according to them.
Sheikh Mohammed Belal, who serves as the ambassador to the Netherlands, has been proposed to be made as to the envoy to Japan as Ambassador Rabab Fatima has been appointed to replace Masud Bin Momen as Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York.
Momen is set to replace M Shahidul Haque as the next foreign secretary.
Bangladesh Ambassador to South Africa Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury will be brought back to the foreign office in Dhaka to be replaced by the envoy in Turkey, M AllamaSiddiki.
Moudud Manan, who heads Dhaka’s mission in Uzbekistan, is set to replace Siddiki in Ankara.
The ministry has proposed to swap postings of Md Jashim Uddin in Greece and Ashud Ahmed in Qatar.
Kamrul Ahsan, the secretary-bilateral (Europe, Africa & Americas) and consular at the foreign ministry, has been proposed as the envoy to Moscow while Nahida Sobhan, the director-general of UN Wing, to head the mission in Jordan.
Meanwhile, envoys in over 10 countries, including Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Malaysia, Mexico and Brazil, are set to retire by next year.
