Bangladesh will have 22 public holidays next year, eight of which fall on weekends.
The list of public holidays was approved at a cabinet meeting led by the Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Offices on Monday (Oct 28).
Of the 22 days, 14 will be general holidays and the other eight are cleared by executive order, Cabinet Secretary Md ShafiulAlam told reporters.
The 14 general holidays are composed of JatiyaDibash and various religious festivals. Seven of these days will fall on the weekend next year.
Another three days of optional leave had been approved for members of different religious communities to observe their own festivals, he added.
“Government employees of ethnic origin in the Chittagong Hill Tracts can opt for two days of additional leave along with the Bangla New Year Holiday,” said Alam.
