Some evidence has been uncovered from the video footage of the clash between police and locals at Bhola, said senior Cabinet member Obaidul Quader.
He made the remarks while addressing a media call at his secretariat office on Thursday (Oct 24).
“Talks are underway with Facebook authorities over the matter,” he said and added that those responsible will be brought to book.
On Oct 18, one Biplob Chandra Baidya, filed a general diary with the police saying that his Facebook ID had been hacked.
Police verified the information and arrested two people over the matter. However, by that time disparaging comments over Prophet Muhammad on Messenger that “hurt” religious sensitivities
went viral.
On Oct 20, a group of people brought out a procession in Borhanuddin Bazar protesting the comments.
The clashes left four people dead and over a hundred people injured. At least four platoons of BGB were deployed to quell the situation.
A local platform named Sarbadoliya Muslim Oikya Parishad (All-Party Muslim Unity Council) staged a protest against incident in front of Bhola Press Club on Oct 20, afternoon, where they placed six demands, including capital punishment for the Hindu youth, handover of the deceased to their families without autopsies, and payment for the treatment of the wounded by the government.
They also announced a rally in the premises of Bhola Government High School in Bhola Sadar upazila to protest the incident.
