The government is satisfied with the verdict in the murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi, says senior Cabinet member Obaidul Quader.
The Road Transport and Bridges Minister made the remarks while addressing a media call at the ministry on Thursday (Oct 24).
“We are satisfied that the verdict was given with rapid proceeding,” the ruling party general secretary said.
Earlier on Thursday a Feni court handed death penalty to 16 people including madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Daula.
On Apr 6, Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa was set on fire by the followers of Siraj for refusing to withdraw a sexual harassment case against him.
She succumbed to her injuries at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Apr 10. Nursrat’s killing triggered protests and outrage with several government high-ups including the prime minister pledging justice for her.
