Five more spans of Padma Bridge ready for installation

The 13th span of the 6.15-kilometre long Padma Multipurpose Bridge has been installed at Mawa point on Saturday (May 25). FILE PHOTOMore five spans are kept ready for installation on the 6.15-kilometre Padma Bridge, officials saying the construction of the bridge is progressing fast as its 5 more spans will be installed soon making a total of 2,850 meters of the bridge visible.
“Preparation is underway to install the 150- metre long 15th span on 23 and 24 piers within two or three days making a total of 2,250 meters visible of the mega bridge,” an engineer of Padma Multipurpose Bridge told BSS on Monday (Oct 15).
A total of 41 spans will be installed on 42 concrete pillars to complete the bridge, of which 30 spans were brought to Mawa point and 14 spans were so far has been installed, he added.
According to the project details, the construction of the 6.15-kilometre long Padma Bridge is going on full swing with a target to get it complete as soon as possible.
On Oct 14, 2018, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled the name plaque of Padma Bridge Toll Plaza at the Mawa end.
According to experts, the national economy is expected to witness 1.2 percent GDP growth rate, while 0.84 percent poverty will be reduced every year after completion of the bridge to be built with an estimated cost of Tk 301.93 billion.
The first span of the Padma Bridge was installed on Sept 30, 2017. The second span was installed four months later on Jan 28, 2018 while the third one was placed on Mar 11, after one and a half months.
