Mosquito control gets priority in Tk 36b DSCC budget

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has placed a Tk 36.31 budget for the fiscal 2019-20 laying emphasize on mosquito control under the jurisdiction of the city corporation, reports BSS.
DSCC Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon unveiled the budget at Mayor Hanif Conference room of the Nagar Bhaban here.
The DSCC has increased Tk 326.5 million crore in the budget for the fiscal 2019-20 in comparison to the budget of Tk 35.99 billion in fiscal 2018-19.
In his budget speech, the mayor said the DSCC projected to collect a total of Tk 9.72 billion as revenue to meet the budget financing from its own sources while the mayor is expecting to get Tk 24.45 billion as the government and foreign assistances for different projects.
The city corporation is expecting the largest income of Tk 3.1 billion from Bazar Salami, the second largest income of Tk 1.05 billion from asset transfer taxes, the third largest income of Tk 900 million from trade license and Tk 350 million by renting Bazar.
DSCC is set to spend Tk 3.50 billion for salary and other benefits of its employees while Tk 790 million for energy, water, gas and electricity, Tk 333.5 million for development and maintenance of physical structures, Tk 433 million for controlling mosquito menace, Tk 70 million for rents, rates and taxes and Tk 331.7 million for supplying.
Replying to a question from a journalist, Sayeed Khokon said, “Dengue prevalence in the city has already come under control. The situation will improve further by this week. However, the mosquito elimination programme will continue throughout the year”.
The DSCC has taken a five-year plan to prevent diseases like dengue and Chikanguniya by eliminating mosquito, he said, adding that manpower will be increased and an independent department named ‘Communicable Diseases and Research Department’ will be introduced.
Chief Executive Officer of the DSCC Mustafizur Rahman, its high officials and councilors of different wards were present on the occasion.
