The Election Commission (EC) has announced the schedule for the by-polls to the Rangpur-3 parliamentary seat, vacated after the death of the former military dictator and Jatiya Party founder HM Ershad.

Voting has been fixed for Oct 5 while the deadline for filing nominations ends on Sep 9, EC Additional Secretary Md Mokhlesur Rahman said on Sunday (Sept 1) while announcing the schedule before the media.

The voting will be held using the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

He said that voting at the vacant seat will be held from 9 am to 5 pm on Oct 5.

According to the announced schedule, the last date for filing nomination papers is Sept 9, nomination papers will be selected on Sept 11. And the candidacy can be withdrawn till Sept 16.

HM Ershad, who was elected from the constituency in the 11th general election, died at the Combined Military Hospital on July 14 this year.
