Over 1100 hospitalized for dengue in 24 hrs: DGHS

Almost all hospitals in Dhaka are struggling to cope with the increasing flow of dengue patients, with many public hospitals accommodating patients on the floors. FOCUS BANGLAA total of 1,157 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
A DGHS media statement on Wednesday (Aug 287) said that amongst them 551 patients were admitted in Dhaka and 606 in other districts.
It said that a combined number of 5,222 patients at private and state-owned hospitals are currently undergoing treatment for the mosquito-borne virus.
According to the government count, a total 52 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till August 28. The unofficial death toll, however, is reportedly 121.
A total of 67,221 have been diagnosed with dengue from Jan 1 till Aug 28. Amongst them 61,826 have returned from the respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
