The schedule for the by-election to Rangpur-3 constituency will be published on Sept 1, says Election Commission (EC) Secretary Alamgir Hossain.
Electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be used at all polling centres in the by-polls, he told the media after an EC meeting at its Agaraon offices in Dhaka on Tuesday (Aug 27).
EVMs were also used in the Rangpur-3 seat that encompasses Sadar Upazila in the 11th parliamentary election on Dec 30, 2018.
The EC official said the voting day would also be disclosed during the release of the schedule.
The Speaker of Parliament declared the Rangpur-3 seat vacant two days after Jatiya Party founder HM Ershad died on Jul 14.
As many as 441,971 people -- 221,109 males and 220,562 females -- will exercise their voting rights in Rangpur 3 by-polls, which is likely to be held by early October, sources at the EC said.
