The former deputy commissioner to Jamalpur, accused of being in a compromising position with a female staffer in a CCTV footage that went viral on social media, will be dismissed if the allegations are found to be true, said the cabinet secretary.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam made the remarks while briefing the media on Monday (Aug 26).
Saying that a committee has been formed to probe the allegations and there will be negligence in that regard, he added, “He might even be demoted.”
Former deputy commissioner of Jamalpur Ahmed was withdrawn from duties on Sunday (Aug 25) after videos purportedly of him in a compromising position with a female staffer went viral on social media.
He has since been attached to the ministry as an officer on special duty (OSD).
Allegations of misuse of power and government assets have also been brought against Kabir.
Responding to queries on those allegations, Alam said, “If the probe committee finds anything related or something like this comes up then they can pursue that line of investigation.”
He added that if anything is found to be true, it will be mentioned in the probe report but whether it will be made public remains to be seen.
After the video went viral, the government formed a five-member committee to probe the allegations that Kabir has categorically denied saying that the video was fabricated.
A statement from the public administration on Sunday said that the committee has been told to submit the report within 10-working day.
State Minister Farhad Hossain said that exemplary disciplinary action will be taken against both Kabir and the female staffer.
