The official number of deaths from the mosquito-borne dengue virus till Monday (Aug 26) has been updated to 52.
The information was revealed at a media briefing held at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) at Mohakhali in Dhaka on Monday (Aug 26) afternoon.
Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) Director Professor Meerjady Sabrina Flora spoke at the briefing.
According to IEDCR, the DGHS received information of 173 till Monday. Cause of death in 88 cases was investigated and 52 of them were found to be caused by dengue.
The cause of death behind the other 85 deaths was being investigated, the media was told.
A total of 1,251 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours. Among them, 577 patients were admitted in Dhaka and 674 in districts outside Dhaka, Professor Meerjady said.
The number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals combined stood at 5,562.
A total of 3,081 patients are currently receiving treatment in different government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas a total of 2,481 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka.
An estimated 64,765 people have been infected with the dengue virusBetween Jan 1 and Aug 26.
Among those admitted, a total of 59,030 have been released from hospitals and clinics after treatment.
