The government will initiate steps soon to include more educational institutions under it Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme in line with a new policy, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the parliament.
Replying to a query from Jatiya Party MP Fhakrul Imam, she said that her administration’s second term has brought a total of 137,546 teachers and employees of private educational institutions under MPO coverage.
“The Non-government Educational Institutions’ (School and College) Manpower Organogram and MPO Policy, 2018 has been issued with a view to enlisting the remaining non-government educational institutions under the MPO on the basis of a specific policy,” said the leader of the House.
For retirement benefit of teachers and staff, the government has allocated Tk 5 billion seed money in the year 2016-2017 fiscal year.
During Tuesday’s parliament session, Finance Minister AMA Muhith described MPO as a ‘bad scheme’ saying a programme that pays salaries to some teachers and staff does not contribute to the development of education.
