Awami League leaders relay the prime minister’s address to the public in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban on Thursday (Aug 1).Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged everyone to keep their houses clean to check the spread of mosquito-borne dengue fever.

She said, “Awami League leaders will conduct cleanliness campaigns in their respective constituencies.”

“The citizens of the country also have to take up some responsibilities as well. Everyone must work together to combat the dengue menace,” she added.

She made the call over phone from London on Thursday (Aug 1) while inaugurating a blood donation and tree plantation campaign.

Khrishak League organised the campaign in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital on the occasion of the month of mourning.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader was present at the blood donation campaign as the chief guest.

She said, “We would implement Bangabandhu’s ideologies to change the fate of people. If we can change their lives for the better, then the debt of the sacrifices made by the Father of the Nation would be paid.”

Calling on the party leaders to work insincerely for the welfare of the country and its people, the prime minister said, “Every party leader and activist must follow Bangabandhu’s ideologies and devote themselves to serve humanity.”

“We will take the country towards greater paths of progress,” she added.

Urging every citizen to plant three trees each, the Awami League president said, “Tree plantation is needed to combat disasters and the impacts of climate change.”

She said that greater tree plantation would create income opportunities while the trees would help to build a natural barrier to fight off disasters and cyclones in coastal areas.

The prime minister said that Bangladesh was making progress in every sector and that her government was creating opportunities to ensure healthcare facilities, higher education, research and food security at the grassroots.

After the prime minister’s speech concluded, the blood donation campaign began.

Awami League Presidium Members Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque, organizing secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, agriculture and cooperatives affairs secretary Faridunnar Laili alongwith other central leaders were present on the occasion.
