Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam has said that he has no dearth of sincerity but lacks the experience of dealing with the prevailing dengue crisis.
His remarks came while the two Dhaka city corporation mayors briefed the media on the dengue situation during a special programme at the health ministry on Thursday (Aug 1).
Dhaka South Mayor Sayeed Khokon, who was also present, claimed that the situation is turning critical and asked everyone to pray.
“The situation is deteriorating and we are trying our best to tackle the problem and ask the people to keep trust on us,” Sayeed Khokon said.
Saying that the situation will come under control on the first week of September, he added: “11 wards in the city are now free of Dengue.”
DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam, observed: “Dengue is not a seasonal disease, and we have to be alert all around the year and so, are planning to open a Dengue Research Centre.”
Now anyone can import mosquito repellent; we cancelled the shipment of one batch of medicines since they were faulty and blacklisted the company.
We have to take long term strategies, he said, adding: “We are requesting all patients to lie inside a mosquito net.”
We have also distributed 14,000 mosquito nets with another 16,000 in stock, said the DNCC boss.
