Leading online media outlets of the country will be registered soon, said Information Minister Hasan Mahmud.
“Online media outlets which are playing a crucial role in publishing news will be registered soon,” he said Monday (Jul 29).
His remarks came at a meeting with a delegation of Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum at his office in the Secretariat.
Citing social media as unedited platforms, Hasan said many contents published in social media cause disability and destroy social bonding, and communal harmony.
“Whereas media outlets are edited platforms and they make fewer mistakes,” he said before urging the journalists to work together with the government against propaganda on social media.
Hasan informed that his ministry is operating the monitoring work to check rumors and a high-level meeting of a panel on monitoring will be held on Aug 1.
Speaking of issuing accreditation cards, the ministry said journalists would no longer face hassle as the chief information officer has joined the office.
“There will be no hassle in accreditation card renewal too,” he added.
