Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud speaks to the media briefing at his office on Jan 30. PID/File PhotoAround seventy percent of the murder suspects recently arrested are BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami men, claimed Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.

“There have been several killings across the country due to rumours of child-lifters,” he said on Thursday (Jul 25) during a discussion meeting at National Press Club.

“A vested quarter is extremely disappointed that Bangladesh constructed Padma Bridge with its own funding,” he added.

The minister said that those people are not conspiring and resorting to tricks as they have failed to fight them politically.

“As part of their strategy, they spread the rumour that 100,000 children will have to be sacrificed with the government’s clearance,” he said.

He added that innocent people were being attacked and killed on suspicion of being child-lifters after that.

“The government has a strict stance against them. Most of them have been arrested and 70 percent are BNP-Jamaat men.”
