Trying best to find solution to Rohingya crisis: UN chief

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres had a discussion on Thursday (Jul 18). PIDUN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said that he has been putting in his best efforts to find a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis.
Secretary General Guterres said this while discussing his role in ensuring an acceptable solution to the protracted Rohingya crisis with Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, reports UNB.
The two discussed a number of specific issues to expedite the efforts of the international community on Thursday (Jul 18), the news agency said citing the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN in New York.
The UN chief expressed concern over the Rohingya issue and thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, including the people of Bangladesh, for their generosity in hosting them on humanitarian ground.
Bangladesh is now home to over 1.1 million Rohingyas and most of them entered since August 2017 amid military crackdowns and "ethnic cleansing".
The foreign minister requested the UN chief to attend the birth centenary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and deliver a speech on the occasion.
He also invited the UN chief to attend the programs, arranged by Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations.
