Deputy Commissioners (DCs) have been given directives not to give gas or power connections unless the requesting entity is a planned industrial zone, said state minister for energy, Nasrul Hamid Bipu.
He made the directive on Monday (Jul 15) on the second day of the conference of DCs.
“As per the order of the prime minister, all industrial zones need to be developed in a disciplined manner; problems arise if indiscriminate gas, power connections are given”, said Hamid.
The arrear power and gas bills of government institutions stand at Tk 140 million and Tk 80-90 billion respectively, he observed.
“The DCs will try to recover the unpaid bills and in failing to do so, have been asked to cut off lines.”
