The general people and Dhaka University students demonstrated on campus expressing solidarity with Professor ABM Faroque, former director of DU Biomedical Research Centre.
The protesters organised a human chain demonstration in front of the Raju sculpture on Sunday (Jul 14).
They called for those who were harassing him for publishing the finding of antibiotics in pasteurized milk, to be brought to justice.
The speakers said that he is having to face negative consequences for bringing the truth to public eye and the university authorities are not beside him.
“We, the students stand beside those who think of public welfare and speak out without any fear,” fourth-year student of the microbiology department Chayan Barua said during the demonstration.
A group of DU researchers found antibiotics in milk samples of several widely sold brands in the country.
They found four kinds of antibiotics in the samples. However, government employees have called for steps to be taken against those researchers.
