Flood situation to deteriorate in central Bangladesh

The situation, however, is likely to improve in the southern parts, Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, executive engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), told the media on Sunday (Jul 14).

"The water level of Padma River will rise above danger level within the next couple of days and will flood the adjacent areas,” he said.

He added that the situation is expected to worsen in the northern, northeastern and central parts of the country.

"But the flood situation the southern regions of the country is expected to improve.”

Incessant monsoon rains have triggered flooding in several parts of the country, marooning thousands of people and disrupting road communications.
