Water levels at 79 river stations monitored by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) have risen.
Among the 93 monitored stations, water level at two river stations have been registered steady while water level at 23 river stations are flowing above danger level, BSS reported citing a FFWC bulletin issued on Saturday (Jul 13).All the major rivers are in rising trend, it said adding major rivers in Chattogram, Sylhet and Rangpur division including the Surma, Kushiyara, Kangsha, Feni, Haldha, Matamuhuri, Sangu and Dharala may rise rapidly in next 24 hours
Flood situations in areas of Netrokona, Sunamganj, Sylhet, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazaar, Bandarban, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Jamalpur and Gaibandha may deteriorate in next 24 hours commencing.Significant rainfall was recorded at some stations in different districts during the last 24 hours ending at 9 am on Saturday, it said.
A total of 225 millimetres (mm) rainfall was recorded at Lalakhal, 115mm at Sylhet, 108mm at Dhaka, 156 mm at Kanaighat, 113 mm at Ramgarh, 103mm at Panchpukuria, 135mm at Narayanhat, 110mm at Jariajanjail and 92mm at Dhugapur.FFWC predicts a "rapid rise" of the water levels in rivers in northeastern Sylhet region, southwestern greater Chittagong ranging from Feni to Hill Tracts and southwestern Barisal region in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Met office forecasts heavy to very heavy rain fall in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions for the next 24 hours.In its Heavy Rainfall Warning, it said the forecast will be valid from 10am Saturday to 10am Sunday.
Dhaka recorded 94mm of rainfall on Friday.Officials said the shared information received from their counterparts in the Indian met office suggested that heavy rainfall could lash Bangladesh's northwestern, northeastern and southeastern parts of Bangladesh and their adjoining regions in India's Assam and Meghalaya states in next 24 to 48 hours.
