PBI chief Banoj Kumar Majumder at a debate program at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) on Saturday (Jul 13).The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) will provide security to the witnesses in the murder case of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

The move is to ensure that no one can influence or threaten the witnesses to stop them from testifying, PBI chief Banoj Kumar Majumder said on Saturday (Jul 13) after a debate program at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC).

“There 92 witnesses in the case so far and 13 people have testified,” he said and added that the first seven witnesses are very important.

Responding to queries on whether there was any political pressure on the case, he said that they have overcome all kinds of pressure and lodged the charge sheet.

On suspended OC Moazzem Hossain being taken to court without a handcuff while senior journalist Prabir Sikder was, he said, “If police think that there is a chance of a prisoner escaping they can handcuff them.”

“But they can’t do it if the person is ill. They shouldn’t have handcuffed the senior journalist and the police officer might be punished for it,” he added.

The police officer said that in order to prevent abuse on women, moral values are as important as the law.
