Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the government’s target is to bring down Bangladesh’s poverty rate to a level less than the USA.
“At present, we have brought down the poverty rate to 21.8%. I have a target to reduce it further,” she said on Sunday (Jun 23).
She made the remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of the 110th, 111th and 112th Law and Administration Courses at Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy, reports UNB.
The prime minister said: “The poverty rate in the USA may be 17% or 18%. At any cost, I will have to cut it down to at least 1% less than that in the USA.”
“The world is changing constantly with invention of new technology. Many changes also occur at workplaces. You have to catch up with it,” she said.
Urging people not to work just for the sake of working, she said: “If you nurture the feelings of responsibility, patriotism and affection for the country and its people, and have accountability in your mind, the country will surely prosper.”
State Minister for Public Administration Ministry Farhad Hossain, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Administration Ministry HN Ashequr Rahman, Public Administration Secretary Faiz Ahmed and Rector of the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy Kazi Rowshan Akhter were present at the program.
