Information Minister Hasan Mahmud. File PhotoAll preparations to broadcast state-owned television channel BTV in India has been completed, said Information Minister Hasan Mahmud.

“A final agreement has been approved to broadcast BTV in India,” he said while addressing a media call at the secretariat on Sunday (Jun 23).

He added that a technical team will go on a visit from Jun 25 to 27 after which the broadcast date will be finalised.

“In addition to that there is also another agreement to broadcast Bangladesh Betar in India,” he said.

The minister said that a working agreement was signed with India on May 7 and was finalised on Jun 19.

“The doors of India have now been opened for Bangladesh television and radio,” he added.

Responding to queries on the matter Hassan said that for now only BTV will be available in India but the government has no issues with private TV channels being broadcasted.

“Since the cable operators there demand steep fees, it’s not profitable to broadcast on a commercial level,” he said and added that now that a step has been taken, everyone can benefit from it soon.
