Mobile phone use to get costlier

REUTERSMobile phone users will have to spend more now as the budget proposal for FY20 proposes to double the supplementary duty.
It proposes to increase the supplementary duty from 5 percent to 10 percent on the services provided through mobile phone SIM / RIM card, according to the budget speech.
At present, mobile phone users have to bear 15 percent VAT, 5 percent supplementary duty and 1 percent surcharge on their bill for phone calls, internet and others usage. And now the rate of supplementary duty is going up to 10 percent.
The budget also proposes to raise the minimum tax for mobile companies to two percent of their turnover from 0.75 per cent.
