The Chinese government has invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to visit Beijing next month.
They proposed the bilateral official visit date from July 1 to 5 and it includes attending World Economic Forum summer meeting in Dalian from where she will be flying to Beijing on July 3.
“We are expecting this invitation and if everything goes right, the premier will be leaving Dhaka on July 1,” said an official.
He said, they earlier proposed for the high-level visit on Mar 27 this year, but it was not agreed by Dhaka.
“It is a return visit as Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Dhaka in 2016 and now it is our turn to go to Beijing,” he added.
The purpose of this visit is to strengthen the bilateral relations and at the same time follow-up the progress of 2016 visit, the official said.
During the visit of Xi Jinping, Bangladesh and China signed 27 deals that include over $24 billion soft and commercial loans for different projects.
Another official said, Sheikh Hasina visited China in 2014 and had the official talks with Chinese premier Li Keqiang and called on the Chinese President.
“We expect to have a similar format and we are working on this,” he said.
If Hasina goes to China next month, this will be the seventh visit after she assumed power in January for a straight third term.
She visited Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Brunei, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Finland in the last six months.
