The government is considering toll free facility for emergency services, says Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader.
“Only the president’s car is allowed to use the Bangabandhu Bridge without paying toll; even the prime minister has to pay the toll to cross bridges. However, the toll-free facility for ambulance, fire service and police vehicles is being considered,” he told the media on Monday (Jun 10).
Talking about deaths on highways, he commented: “This Eid, there were more deaths than accidents and these were caused by small vehicles; we need the cooperation of all quarters to stop the plying of these vehicles from the highways.”
This time, 55 cases were lodged and Tk 500,700 collected as fines for charging excess fares and other offences, he said.
The minister also confirmed that a ride-sharing policy will be formulated within the next one month.
Regarding the implementation of road transport law, Quader, added: “The law could not be implemented as the workers were united during the agitation.”
