Home ministry opens probe over Biman pilot fiasco

Biman Bangladesh AirlinesThe home ministry has opened a probe over the incident of a Bangladesh Biman pilot going to Qatar to bring back the prime minister without a passport.
The ministry’s Security Service Division Additional Secretary Pradip Ranjan Chakraborty said in a notice on Friday (Jun 7) that the committee has to submit the report within seven days.
Security Division Additional Secretary (security and immigration) Mohammad Azharul Haque will lead the probe body where Additional Joint Secretary Helal Mahmud Sharif, Immigration and Passport Division Additional Director General Selena Banu and Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s Immigration police Superintendant Mohammad Shahriar Alam are members.
The committee has been directed to probe how Captain Fazal Mahmud left the airport without a passport and assign the responsibilities of authorities concerned.
It has also been asked to list how similar incidents can be prevented and recommend steps to be taken for better immigration system.
Earlier, the Cabinet Division formed a four member probe body over the incident and asked it to submit the report within three working days.
Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Nasima Begum is the convener of the committee while Joint Secretary of home ministry’s Security Division Md Helal Mahmud Chowdhury, Civil Aviation and Tourism Joint Secretary Mustakim Billah Faruqi and Joint Secretary of home ministry’s Public Security Division Md Jahangir Alam are members.
Cabinet Division Senior Assistant Secretary Gazi Tarique Salman said in an order on Friday (Jun 7) that the probe body will look into why the pilot travelled to Doha without a passport.
Moreover, it will also probe any negligence on the immigration authority’s part and identify the lacking of the Immigration and Passport Division.
