A Bangladeshi man has been shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Chapainawabganj.
The incident occurred at the Gilabari border in the district's Bholahat Upazila early on Tuesday (Jun 4), said BGB.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Jahirul Islam.
"Jahirul, along with some other people, crossed the zero line and tried to cut the Indian barbed-wire fence around 4:30am on Tuesday,” Mahmudul Hasan, commanding officer of Chapainawabganj Battalion 59 of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) told Bangla Tribune.
"Members of Kristapur BSF border outpost opened fire on them, leaving Jahirul dead," said Hasan.
"We held a flag meeting with BSF in the morning and protested the killing of the Bangladeshi citizen” he said before adding, "BSF will hand over the body to Bangladesh after an autopsy.
