CNG autorickshaw strike

The General Secretary of Chittagong CNG autorickshaw workers’ union Shakhawat Hossain Dulal has said that their strike, with eight-point demands including the imposition of a ban on app-based transport services like Uber and Pathao, will be demonstrated on December 27-28 and not on November 27-28.

On November 15, Dulal announced a strike in Dhaka and Chittagong for November 27-28 following other activities in a press briefing at the Dhaka Reporters Unity.

Later Dulal said: “Our strike is on December 27-28. Not November 27-28. Some of the newspapers have mistakenly printed the wrong dates.

“Neither we nor the autorickshaw drivers read newspapers on a regular basis. Some of the drivers called me on Sunday and informed me about the misunderstanding. I clarified it to them that our strike will be in December,” he further explained.

However, commuters have strongly condemned the stance of the autorickshaw drivers and their strike. Many commuters think Pathao is a great means to avoid gridlock in the cities, while Uber is also considered a passenger-friendly transport.
