Teachers belonging to the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) general education cadre have continued their strike for the second consecutive day on Monday.
The teachers of Government Bangla College, Dhaka College and Eden Women’s College were present at the colleges but skipped all the academic and administrative activities due to their strike.
According to the teachers, they were protesting a government move which provides teachers of newly nationalised non-government colleges with the same status and benefits as theirs the teachers who completed BCS and became cadres.
BCS General Education Association began a two-day protest on Sunday and will go on another strike on January 6-8 if their demands are not met.
However, the teachers of newly nationalised non-government colleges have demanded equal status of BCS cadres and have threatened legal actions if not granted same standing.
